(Beware: Super Nerds ahead!)

Firstly, the big one, school. School took a piece of wood, set it on fire, and just stared me in the eyes as it brought the fire closer to me. Seriosuly, I don’t think I’ll ever say “I can’t wait ’till I’m in Grade __, or _ Year University/college” ever again. In fact, I miss the old Elementary school. With the recesses and all. That’s something you don’t realize. You don’t realize how fun recess was, until you don’t get it anymore. Kind of like bananas. They’re good, very good, then amazing, then, not so much. 2 months later, after you’ve been deprived of food, you eat a banana, and it’s back to the status of amazing…Hmm, that went completely off topic. Anyways, yeah, school has been keeping me busy for quite some time. I’ve had my Biology slideshow, which didn’t turn out that great in the end, my physics catapult, and…well, all of physics class in general.

Secondly, girls, relationships, and friends have kept me under constant stress. It absolutely tears my soul apart for saying such a thing, and saying it was a cause of the lack of updates, but it’s true. Your mind seems to wander off in all directions when your life isn’t doing so great. However, I have never been happier. And who couldn’t be. The holidays have only begun!

Thirdly, probably the most logical reason for the blog starvation, is because of a tiny box. However, this is no ordinary tiny box. No. This tiny box is great. It also comes with a remote. Yep, a remote! Hell, it even has channels! If you haven’t gotten it already go punch yourself thoroughly in the gut , I’m talking about the Ninteno Wii! I absolutely freaking love it! Plus, I bought Zelda. And if you know me, the equation seems to always be: Neek + Zelda + water + couch = vegetable. And this Zelda is no different. I LOVED Twilight Princess so much that I’ll say it twice. I LOVED Twilight Princess. Awesome game, with an awesome story, awesome music, awesome gameplay, awesome art direction, and awesome awesomeness factors. All in all, it was awesome.

Aside from Zelda though, Wii sports is popular with the family AND friends. Check out the 6 videos at the end of this post. All video’s of me and my friend playing Wii Boxing, and using historical/political characters (p.s. I’m the one that wins 5 out of 6 times).

So yeah, that’s pretty much what I’ve been up to. OH! And Elite Beat Agents for DS. I love this game almost as much as Twilight Princess. Seriosuly, you have to play this game. If you see me in the halls and want to see what it’s all about, ask. I’ll gladly let you play it.

In this celebration of the new year, I’m going to give you some links that have absolutely no relation to Diwali. But enjoy them anyways.

First up, we have an awesome retrospectives on Zelda. Whether or not you’re a fan or follower of the series, these retrospectives are great, and make you think back on how amazing Zelda truly was. So, check out part 1 and part 2 Speaking of Zelda, someone made a pretty funny Wind Waker video all about the Wii-mote.¹

Next up, is a site that I wish I knew about earlier. Bash.org is a site that takes funny conversations in IRC chat rooms, and displays them to the public. Check it out when you need a good laugh. Some people can be quite stupid/funny/sad. A small warning though. Things might get a little geeky, so don’t blame me if you are mentally hurt after viewing this site.

If you’re just trying to find something do do, this updated version of Pong will definately take up an hour of your day. If you just feel like taking up, say 5 minutes, of your day then you can be part of this: The election for the 7 new wonders of the world! (play dramatic music).

Oh! And if you think I’m addicted to the internet, think again. This article completely contradicts my life.

Now I must go sign some papers for some “clinic” to help with some “addiction” that I have.

Time to Partay for the craziest girl in Brantford!

Everyone eat pie, and cake, and chocolate and drink a lot of Coffee and Chai!

Let’s just say, I have my qualms with Myspace (why do most people set their pages as black backgrounds? It’s so depressing it makes me want to cry). Also, Myspace gets really cluttered and annoying when trying to view it. The song feature is cool, but it just makes loading a page that much more of a hassle. And having a “top friends” list…seems kind of demeaning to people. Especially when you thought you were someones best friend, and find out you were beat out by ananymous_hatr2 (aka “That Guy/Girl”).

If you’re having doubts, just try it out. I know a certain Addicted Geek who seems to be enjoying it. He even created his own group to gather other addicted geeks! So just give it a shot, and don’t forget to add me! I don’t like feeling left out, because that is just ignorant!

I had absolutely no expectations from this movie. I guess I thought it would be better than being bored. I never saw the first movie, so I had no clue what would be the main story of the movie. This didn’t really matter. Find out why after the jump

(spoilers ahead!)

I’ll admit that I was somewhat expecting maybe a little bit of jumpy parts from this movie. I also thought that maybe I wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight. Turns out that didn’t happen. It may have been the fact that there were 15-18 Eleven year olds in the two rows ahead of my friend and I, it may have been the fact that one guy behind us was cracking some funny jokes during the movie, or maybe it was the fact that the movie just wasn’t scary, nor disturbing at all.

That last line may not have been fair, as I’m sure those 11 year old kids won’t be sleeping tonight. But the reason for that isn’t the movie, it’s probably because they heard me swearing my buttocks off at them during the movie.

Anyways, enough about the kids that angered me. Let’s talk about the movie. I don’t really feel like explaining the story, since I didn’t understand it in the first place. From what I can gather, it’s about a house. This house apparently gives you a curse if you enter it. It also appeared that the house was burned down, which I suppose occurred in the first movie. I think that about covers it. Oh, and there’s some weird naked blue kid and some “the Ring” type girl.

Oh oh! It also shows some lady that hits her husband with a frying pan after making him breakfast.

Yeah, that about covers the start.

There’s 3 stories going on throughout the movie. One about a girl who’s asked by her mother to get her sister out of the hospital down in Tokyo, and take her back to America. The second story is about a family, who’s trying to cope with their new mother. Oh, and they have a freaky neighbor. And the third story is about a girl who is forced by 2 other girls to enter the house.

So, as I said, I was hoping that the movie would make me jump, and would leave me scared pantless. I’ll explain why both of those didn’t happen. First of all, the “jump” factor. I find that I will jump in a movie only when the parts are spread out in the movie, and when they are surprises. This movie fails to do so. The parts that are supposed to make you jump happen ever 5-6 minutes…average. So, even if you jumped before, I doubt you’ll jump again, because you’d have lost attention from the movie. The chances of you jumping, however, is also rare. This is because it’s very predictable when something will pop up. Wether it be dark rooms, the music (which blew dogs bollocks anyways), a mirror, or the girl turning around and feeling around her hair. It’s kind of really, very, nearly impossible to get scared if you know what’s going to happen 2 minutes before it happens.

Secondly, it didn’t leave me insomnic for the night. I mentioned before that there was a guy behind us cracking jokes, so he could be the reason for this. He may not be, though, since the whole disturbing/scary part of the movie was horribly done. I mean, in grade 7, girls coming out of television screens was scary…not anymore however. Nowadays, I usually greet girls that pop out of television screens. Also, little blue boy, naked, big eyes, and….blue, just isn’t scary. Kind of gross, but not scary. More funny than anything, because the boy meowed or something. I guess the kid just wanted to play animal kingdom or something. But, no! People refuse to play with him, and that makes me ashamed to be human.

Let’s just say that this movie didn’t do it for me. I’m really glad I wasn’t expecting anything from this movie, because I was disappointed with it anyways. I even passed out for 5 minutes because it didn’t interest me, and I also predicted a jumpy moment before I passed out…and I was right.

So, what am I saying? I’m saying don’t see this movie. Or, if you really want to see this movie, just lower your expectations. Also, try to sit with someone who can crack jokes. That way, you have something to entertain you when you realize how ridiculous the movie really is.

I guess there is a good part to the movie, but I’m having a hard time remembering what it was. I think it was loud screeching noises…or maybe the confusing as hell ending. Oh! I know what it was. Here it is: The reason you will pay 7.50 $ CAD to see this movie. An old man, on the train, in the middle of the movie making a slowed down peekaboo action and saying “Mee,mee,mee…oh. Mee,mee,mee…oh.” a couple times over.

So that about wraps up my thoughts about this movie. The bad, no true jumpy parts, not scary, and confusing as making good tasting instant coffee. The good, An old man on a train making sounds.

Btw, that’s so my Halloween  costume…for sure.

It would be a complete lie if I said I wasn’t expecting a lot from this game. From the moment I saw the first piece of artwork, I knew I had to have this game. Then, once I saw the game in motion, I starting expecting even more out of it. What was I expecting? Well, you name it. Story, gameplay, music, etc.. And so far, after playing the game for 10+ hours, I can already tell that Okami had preceded my expectations. Let me explain without giving much away.

The game drags you in with a story about a tale. The way that it’s presented is where nicely done. Instead of just displaying the story in a detailed 3d fmv (full motion video), or anything like the such, it goes for a simple “story telling scroll” type. The story itself may seem kind of cliche, but then again, you have to remember that the game is set in a fantasy ancient Japan. It becomes very obvious while telling the story that technology in the game is going to be absent, and what you’ll be seeing is a very lush landscape with many different environments. You can read the story at the official website here. That saves me the trouble of writing the whole story out. I also encourage you to check out the trailer, and get some of the wallpapers on that site. The wallpapers are very beautiful, and may excite you for the game as much as did to me. I will however give you the basics.

The main character in the game is Okami, a wolf who seems to be a decedent of a legendary wolf who saved the village 100 years ago from an evil 8-headed dragon. 100 years later, it seems that the 8-headed dragon has been let loose, and has spread evil over all the land. Thus you, Okami, and your little buggy friend must go out and rid the world of this evil, and bring back colour, nature, and life to the world. Your weapons, a magic mirror (essentially a disk that launches at enemies and used for massive damage), a paintbrush, and your fangs.

I’ll move onto gameplay. One word about it: interesting. If you watched the trailer or seen/heard about this game before, you will know that there is a paintbrush that you use to draw lines or circles in order to advance through the game. I absolutely love this. It’s something completely original, and it works. The paintbrush comes in handy in and out of battles. Out of battles you will use it to do certain tasks like cut down a tree, or create a vine from a flower than will propel you to a whole new area. In battles, the paintbrush is used to slice up enemies, grow tall trees, and launch projectiles. The paintbrush, however has a limited ink supply, but even when you run out, it will fill back up in about 30 seconds or so. Other than the paintbrush, you also have the mirror at your side. The mirror rests on the back of Okami. It cannot be utilized out of battle, only in battle. When enemies are about, you use the medallion to attack but pressing the square button. You can follow up hitting an enemy with another square button, or you can choose the cool looking ( and cool feeling) way of pulling out the paintbrush and chopping the enemies in half. Whenever you complete a certain task, you may be given a different mirror. Each mirror you get posses a different ability. I’ve so far only received 3, but that’s because I haven’t progressed very far. Although I may have spent 10 hours on this game, I can tell you that about 7 hours have been doing other things that following the main story.

You see, while wandering around, I realized that there are a bunch of animals roaming around, many trees that look suspicious, and a lot of land to cover. I took it as my duty to uncover and secrets that I could possibly find. Little did I know that feeding rabbits, chopping trees and drawing circles in the sky would end up being so much fun. Throughout this world there are many side quest, but many of them are usually found by accident. For example, you can buy food of different types ( seeds, meat, herb, fish) and look around for animals. Certain animals like certain food. Give them the food, and they give you Praise points. These Praise points can be used to make your life meter larger, increase the amount of paint you use, fill up your “Astral Pouch”(which I have yet to figure out the use of), or to make your wallet bigger. Feeding animals however is not the only way to gain Praise. By talk to the people around the town, or in the fields, you may be given certain tasks, which when completed, reward you with praise points. There are many other pays to gain Praise, but most of it is random events that take place.

On the way to getting a new power

Oh, and the music is great. The instruments for the music are Japanese instruments, so don’t expect any rock and roll, hiphop or pop. But the music seems to fit the setting very well, and in some cases, it’s scary how awesome the music matches with the scene and the atmosphere. Too scary if you ask me.

This game does have some minor flaws. For example, the game seems a bit easy, but that may be because I’m not that far into it. Another problem that I sometimes have is drawing the shapes. At some points the paintings have to be a certain size in order to continue. My final problem, however, is the worst. My biggest complaint is that it’s so freakin’ addicting. Once you start getting use to the combo’s and continue with the story line, you keep going back to it. And this is horrible when you’re trying to complete a certain task in real life, such as eating breakfast, or itching an itchy spot.

Overall, this game has been a blast so far. I can tell I’m not anywhere close to finishing the game, but it looks to be an enjoyable playthrough. This game seems to be more of an interactive work of art instead of a plain old videogame. The fact that the whole game looks as if though it’s on a canvas and everything else is moving is simply an amazing effect, and the characters and worlds looks stunning. It’s an amazing package altogether, and it looks like it’s going to get even better from here on out.

Anyways, I must go back to clean the toile…play Okami for hours upon hours ’till school starts.
