Sunset Horizons – The Current Generation Issues

If you’re like me, then you are probably: Impatient sometimes, smart but lazy, confused most of the time, filled with anger, and going to go insane one day. But aside from all of those, if you are like me, you’re my age (16 if you didn’t know), and in High school, teenager-ing it up in school. Doing so, however, may cause harm to you, others and even those you don’t know, so please be careful. Anyways, I should probably explain what this is all about. Basically…I’ have a lot to say about things that go on in school. And most of these things, are negative. But bear with me here, you don’t necessarily have to agree, but, hear me out. My opinions will probably differ from just about everybody. So gather ’round, and listen in, on my issue with this: The changing attitude of kids in our school

The school year has just begun, and a new flock of grade 9’s have entered. Good for them making it so far! I remember grade 9 like it was yesterday…sort of. Well, I remember walking in the very first day, confused, and trying to look for any of my friends in site. I managed to find just about all of them in a huge group standing there, talking with each other, and blocking the huge orange hall. Well, at least, it was huge the first time I saw it. Anyways, at that point in life, grade 10’s,11’s, and 12’s were giants compared to wee (Wii?) little Neek. I was scared. I’ll admit it right now. I was one scared individual. I was scared of the large halls, the confusing pathways, the lockers, the new teachers, the waxed floors, the cafeteria (My elementary school didn’t have a cafeteria), and most of all, I was scared of the older guys.

In order to stay on their good side, I would do simple things like open doors for them, let them through first, give then a skittles if they wanted one, etc.. I tried to never stare them in the eyes. If they politely asked for money, I would end up giving them some. I did those things in hopes that I wouldn’t get hurt. Of course, other people feared the older people. Maybe they didn’t do what I did to stay on good terms with everyone, but they did have a sense of fear.

However, these new grade 9’s and 10’s are much different.

I’m going to tell you a story that happened on the 1st day of school. I didn’t really expect much on the first day. Maybe a couple of summer stories, some new faces, a lot of old faces, a lot of old people faces, and a whole lot of grade 9’s. I’m not a tall kid, so I knew there were going to be a couple of taller grade 9’s. So, when i entered the school, I saw some new faces, a lot of old faces, a lot of old people faces, and a whole lot of grade 9’s. But there was something different about this particular group. Something cocky about their attitude. I was walking down a hall with one of my friends talking about summer and work and such, when some grade 9’s came running down the hall, and ran directly into my friend. At this point, you’d expect the kid to say something like “sorry”, but instead a different reaction came out. The kid simply looked at my friend with an angry expression, as if though it was my friends fault for standing there.

That was only example 1 of about….2.

This second story is short, but really ticks me off when I think about it, and think about the kid. So, this story starts off just before after I got my binders and notes and such for the next class. Keep in mind, that this is still the first day, and breaks between classes were shorter. So, I started walking in the general direction of my next class, passing through the 2 most busiest halls in the school between classes. I had forgotten what room number it was, so I slowed down just a bit, and pulled out my schedule. At this point, I knew I was somewhat slowing down the people behind me, so I sped up. I looked over my shoulder, just out of curiosity to see who exactly was behind me. It was a natural action, so I didn’t intend any meaning for it. But a couple seconds later, I heard one of the kids behind me saying something along the lines of “Holy sh*t I f*cken’ hate people who walk slow!”. Of course, so do I, but if I were to say it out loud, I would subtract the swear words, remove the words “hate”,”who”, “holy” and “I”. I felt like saying something but i refrained from it. What angered me was the fact that this kid had a long time before his teacher would really care when he got to class. He was a grade 9 kid, with 3-4 friends, who were giving me almost the same look as the running kid gave to my friend.

I know this article may seem biased. Or that it may seem unfair, because there were probably some kids that were in grade 9 when I was who acted the same way, but each year the grade 9’s become less polite, and more ignorant. Is there anyway to stop it…probably not. There might be, but only if grade 10’s,11’s, and 12’s stop acting mental like. That’s the only hope. The Last Hope! *Ahem* Yes. Well, anyways, that was my rant about some of these newer grade 9’s that roam our school. Of course, if you don’t go to my school and are around my age, I’d love to hear about your 9 years and the grade 9’s you know now. If you go to my school, leave your say in the comment section below. Remember, this is just my opinion, so if you don’t like it…awesome! Tell me why you disagree.

As the wise Neek once said ” Thank you so much for confusing the hell out of me.”
